I appreciate you taking the time to read and reply, Arthur. I should have noted that you do acknowledge the concerns and how the situation appears in that post. I was referring particularly to:
"My response is simple: Vox Games isn’t that. We aren’t that. "

Which is a matter of character and personal conviction, pushing the concrete reality of actions to the side. When a response to "You did a thing that is offensive" is "I'm not [x]! That's not me!" that is a personal, defensive tactic that is meaningless on its own and can muddy the waters of a conversation about actual behavior and outcomes.

You go on to affirm that you will take action to bring in diverse voices (though my "Second String" concerns above still apply,) which is the important part. You don't need to disavow sexism as a personal trait; you can promise and follow-through on progressive actions that speak for themselves ("what you do") without asserting "what you are/aren't."

So thanks again for replying; I am eager to see what (Vox Games vertical, name TBD) brings to the table once it's fully staffed and operational.

I was directed here by a follower on twitter – I would only state that my post on Tumblr was not intended as a "Vox Games Isn't" post. I don't think we are, at least, not determinedly so beyond the sort of systemic stuff that we all will struggle against for the better part of our lives. It as intended as an acknowledgment of the concerns I've seen, in a non-minimizing way. I thought there was a pretty tacit admission that it appeared sexist, even if only because there wasn't a clearly demonstrated effort to go against the sad, male-focused expectations of this industry.

Regardless, it's vital that we are challenged to be better, that we're held to a higher standard. I'll never demonize you or anyone else for doing so.

Thanks for sharing—I actually played Hero Test on release! I wasn't able to make anything playable for Ludum Dare myself and was reminded how I should have approached it when playing your example of taking a clear, clever idea and executing it in scope for a 48-hour game.

It has good company in the "robotic taskmaster as vessel for game designer" lineage of System Shock, Portal, et c. and exemplifies Anna Anthropy's "game designer/player as sadist/masochist" concept better, I think, than the punishing but conquerable games that often get the "masochistic" label.

Awesome writeup of a session that sounds like it was very cool.

I've always been sort of obsessed with failure in games, and for a Ludum Dare a while ago I decided to try to make a game with 0 successes and just 100% failure. I think it's fun for a small little game, but obviously this sort of thing doesn't extend well to any sort of prolonged experience. If you want to try it out it's linked here:
